Wild Rift Basics: Vision

Vision is one of the most important things in the game that is often disregarded by beginners of this game. A good vision game means that you will constantly have at least a brief idea of where the enemy jungler is, and a good idea on where the enemy team is and what they are planning to do. Wards are provided to you for free at the beginning of each game, and you can pick between the “Yellow Trinket” (Warding Totem) and the “Red Trinket” (Sweeping Lens).

The yellow trinket will allow you to place a Totem Ward (Ward) in a certain position that you prefer, although it is quite different from League of Legends where you have to choose the placement of your trinket, Wild Rift allows you to simply tap on the trinket and it will automatically attempt to place a ward in the nearest bush. Knowing that although it will attempt to place in the nearest bush, it will only place it as close to the bush as it could, it will not allow you to place it longer than your range without abusing League’s Wall Warding mechanic. The yellow trinket will provide you with similar vision range as your character would, although it would be slightly shorter than your champion’s vision range.

The sweeper lens will allow you to see anything that is invisible within a certain range around you. It can reveal traps like Teemo’s shroom, Jhin’s trap and any enemy wards etc. It also shows a shadow when any enemy around that is camouflaged, in a bush or simply not visible to you right away. Some examples are Akali, Senna, Vayne, KaiSa, Wukong. I will be posting a specific guide later regarding the differences between camouflage and invisibility and how different things interact with them.

There are several spots for warding in different times in the game, the following is a picture of where are some of the good spots to drop wards at.

Blue dots are wards that are generally better for early game, green dots are generally more invasive wards that you can use to help locate the enemy jungler, and the red dots are generally for when you have all of the enemy first towers taken down, which are really invasive wards that can help you locate where everyone on the enemy team are.

Another thing that provides vision in a specific area for a short period of time is the boots enchantment called redemption, different from redemption, twin shadow reveals specific enemies and vision around that enemy. It slows and marks them for up to 5 seconds depending on how long it has travelled, the full length being about from mid first turret to the center of the dragon river. Outside of abilities, enchantment and wards, the blue plant in the jungle, called the scryer's bloom, not only provides vision, but also scans for invisible things too. Not only does it reveal wards, it permanently reveals them for you to clear. Outside of wards, it marks champions for 3 seconds and other objectives (such as jungle monsters and dragon/herald/baron) for 10 seconds.

Another mechanic that is commonly looked down at is the cooldown between switching between the sweeper and the ward. After you use a stack of ward, regardless of what the cooldown for the next ward is, the cooldown of the sweeper gets reset to 75 seconds. Something similar happens too when you sweep, although since the yellow trinket works in "charges", each charge taking 120 seconds to fill up. If you use a sweeper while having 2 charges of the ward. You will lose 75 seconds on one of the charges while still having 1 charge. Now given that the wards stays alive for 90 seconds, sweeper's cooldown being 75 seconds, dragon spawns at 4 minutes, personally, I tell my team to do specific timings for warding, (which I am not going to reveal here lol but do the math its not hard). Using those information, it's really not hard to decide what you would want to do for dragon pit vision or baron pit vision. The following video give you a pretty clear idea of how the cooldowns of wards work pretty well.

Final tip! You can use your ward/scanner while you're backing and it will not stop you from backing!
